Keyword search in Firefox

Okay, I am liking this keyword search option in Firefox so much that I had to write a post about it. Yeah, a post after 5 months. Anyway, straight to the topic, most of the times, I use Google to search things. And, I am not used to using the search bar for this. So, I used to go to the Google.com home page and then type in the query. Now, I already said through other mediums that, I am not great fan of this Google instant. May be it's good for the people whose typing speed is little slow. I don't use it much. Google Suggest was more than enough and instant is just an eye candy. There was no need to move the search results below the text box all the time and divert my attention. So yeah, I never used it much. Another reason was, I was hooked to this keyword search feature in Firefox. This link explains the thing in detail. I would just give couple of examples of the same.

The thing is pretty easy to start with. You can just right click on the search box of any site and you will find the "Add a keyword for this search..." option in the context menu.

Select that. And select a keyword which you want to associate with this particular search e.g. Google. But 'Google' is pretty long word to type to search on Google, so why not just 'g'. Okay, so from next time, whenever you have to search on Google, you can just enter 'g QUERY' in the awesome bar of your Firefox. Well, I know that, you would not be pretty excited with another option to do Google search. But, this comes handy for any searching any other resources for which you can't use Google search. e.g. your company's internal code browser. So, you can assign another character to the that search like 'c' for code and write your query in the address bar! I found one more use for this recently. Whenever I wanted to see the definition of any word, I used to type 'tfd.com/the_word' (tfd.com is the short URL for thefreedictionary.com). But, then I assigned 't' as the keyword for tfd's search and now I just type 't the_word'. Similarly, I use 'ud' as the keyword for urbandictionary.com and so on.

There's another amazing feature of Firefox, using which, it takes to the first result of the search, if you type the query in the browser. e.g. if I type 'blowin' in the wind lyrics', or 'imdb the big bang theory' it would not take me to the respective search results from Google, but instead directly to the page I am interested in i.e. this and this respectively. But this is a bit slower, as for queries without any keywords (such as imdb, wiki), it tries to find the domain name containing your query. And so, it's not very useful while you want to search about something. And sadly, this seems to be absent in Firefox 4! So that's where, the keyword search comes into picture! Go get it, now! :P

Review: London Dreams and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani

Just back from an awesome party man! This company rocks! It's almost 5 AM and I am yet to sleep... Had logged in for some work and not feeling sleepy now... So thought what better that updating the blog.

Happened to watch two movies in the mean time. London Dreams and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani... Ya I know I am watching too many movies in theater.. But the first one was sponsored by company (This company rocks no. 2!) and the second one was a treat. :D

London dreams was hell of a boring movie. How can one cast Ajay Devgan as rockstar man! Means, come on, that too as a lead singer?! That guy can't dance/perform on stage and he is a rockstar.. wtf? He was totally boring in the role. Means he tried his best and all but he couldn't help it. Anyway, the star of the movie was Salman! Without his acting (yeah he really acted in this one) this movie would have been unbearable (even for free). I don't know where the fake accent of his went in the movie.. If he had acted like this in his previous movies, I would have been his fan or something. Asin looked good. Nothing except that for her. I completely don't understand why her parents being traditional and all is shown in the movie. I don't understand "London Dreams" as a name of rock band. Wembley thing, well just forget it. And how about Ajay "the rockstar" Devgan hitting himself with his belt just to control himself?! (or whatever he meant to do) . And he sitting on his red chair and all.. (wtf no 2). Songs were not that great either and it was supposed to a musical. The list of the flaws is endless. Anyway would rate 3/10 just for Salman! (BTW I want to watch Wanted for a long time. Will try to watch on this weekend)

Next up, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. The movie was a senseless comedy and if you are not going to think much during the movie you will simply like it, as I did. (Note not thinking at all during London Dreams is not expected) There was laughter through out. There was Katrina (And there was Ranbir for girls as well) The chemistry between Ranbir and his dad played by Darshan Zariwalla (source: Harsh) was just awesome and couple of sequences involving them were too hilarious. The movie gets little dragged in the second half, but that's okay. And I liked the climax fighting scene as well! Songs are awesome! All in all, I liked the movie and may be I was in better mood when I saw this... So 7/10 from me!

Next up is 2012 which I am watching on Imax screen on this Sunday! And this, for a change, is TTMM or the dutch way as Rohan says.

Also I know the blog is kinda becoming film review place. So will try to post about the other thing more often in coming days for few readers which the blog has! :)

Barbeque Nation, The Boat That Rocked, Indi Joe's and The Ugly Truth

Aah what a weekend! Two awesome lunch treats. One by me. Had gone for Barbeque Nation yesterday. Never has so much chicken before. I am not going to explain how they serve and all. For that you can head to their site. But man, the menu was too good and the taste was good too! I just had the starters. Couldn't count how many rounds I had! ;) And the desserts were good too.

So after such heavy lunch went home and saw The Boat That Rocked on laptop. The movie was a little bit on the slower side but the characters in the movie made up for that. Nice story and nice music as the movie is about a radio station which is aired from a boat. 8/10.

So woke up late again today and me along with 2 friends gave a treat for our b'day in Indi Joe's. This place was great too! Man I have eaten so much in these two days! And this place had better desserts than BN! Again had hell lot for lunch and had booked for The Ugly Truth which was a part of the party too.

The movie is a sex comedy. The first half is funny as hell. Couldn't stop laughing! Second half was more like a bollywood movie. So all in all worth a watch. On laptop even better. ;) 6/10

Aah so after such a good weekend gotta work from tomorrow again! Anyway will be at home at the other end of the week! :)

Inglorious Basterds!

After watching really boring/pathetic Wake Up Sid! on Saturday, I was really looking forward to watching a good movie in theater. And as I did not have much work in the week, decided to watch another movie within 4 days! And man, what a movie it was!

After watching really intense opening scene involving Christoph Waltz, I knew this is going to be a classic. I have not seen any of Tarantino movie before, although have heard a lot about him. And I was completely blown away by his direction!

The movie was intense through out with some dark humor in between. Christoph Waltz owns the movie through out. And others just chip in the right way! The dialogues were awesome! The way each scene was shot was just too good!

Brad Pitt was good as well, sometimes overacting. But his accent was good none the less. Mélanie Laurent was good in the role of Shosanna as well. There were so many scenes in the movie where I was on the edge of my sit! The starting scene, the scene in the bar....The scenes were long and slow but the you always know that something is going to happen now and that increased the suspense.

The climax scene in the theater was just too good! Perticulary the image of Shosanna on the smoke summed it all! Found the ending little Bollywood style but that's okay :) All in all the best movie I have seen in 2009 and a must watch! 9/10.

Hyderabad Updates II

Having nothing to work after lot of days! So thought what better thing to do than blogging?!

Nothing great has been happening in life currently ( as always ;) ) My family had been to Hyd last week, so finally saw some places here. Salarjung Museum was awesome. Even 4 hours were not enough to finish watching all the galleries. Went to Ramoji Film city. Liked it. After that saw the 4-D movie in Imax which was great as well. Pity that something like that is not there already in Pune. Happened to watch the movie again when losers had come over the weekend. But this time minus the 4th D effect because of some problem! :|

Also happened to eat the famous Paradise biryani! The chicken tasted nice, but not as great as I had expected :D. Saw Wake Up Sid and found it very boring! I was more busy playing game on my cell than watching the movie. At one point of time I got up to walk out of the movie but the bloody door was closed from outside. But some of my friends at work have liked the movie! Donno what to say on that.

Planning to go on long bike trip again sometime in the near future. And hopefully this time even a longer one. Let's see. That's it for now as got some work to do again!

Medhak - Bike trip

Finally posting on the blog! And I had to post about this. On last Friday 2 of my colleagues were planning about a bike trip on one of this long weekend somewhere near Hyderabad. But all the plans fizzled out coz everyone had already planned going home and all. So finally we decided to go on the last Sunday itself.

And coz of lack of bikes finally we ended up with 3 bikes and 3 people- Nayan, Nanda and me. On Saturday I had team outing at Runway 9 (which was awesome as well!) with Go-carting and all. I simply could not resist staying late there even though we had decided to leave early next day. BTW I was not that fast on the four wheels and Joshi beat me hands down here. Anyway more about it some other time.

So I returned at around 1 AM on Saturday and we had to leave at 5.30 AM next day! I somehow manage to reach the starting point i. e. our office by 5.45 AM and took some snaps as Nanda was late.

So we almost left on the planned time. We had decided to take NH 7 to go the north of H'bad. Took ~ 20 mins to hit the highway. And man the highway was awesome! Means I have traveled on roads bigger/better than this. But there was simply no traffic on the road. Had tea and then hit the road non-stop. One could easily drive ~100KM/hr non-stop on the road. And the three bikes (Avenger, YZ-135 and Unicorn) were very well capable of this!

As we had no pillion riders, there was no one stopping us. Nanda was the official photographer with all his photography skills. On the way we found some interesting road signs with distances upto Shrinagar shown!

So after taking stops for taking photos couple of times, in ~ 1.5 hours we had to leave the highway to go to Medhak! And this road though smaller, was surrounded by greenery from both the sides!

So again after riding for around an hour, we reached the Medhak district. Now this district is known for the 2nd largest/tallest(?) catholic church of south Asia! And we reached here at around 9.15, just in time for the Sunday mass.

So after spending some time at the church and having some breakfast, we left for our second destination of the day- Medhak fort. It's around 2 KMs from the church. And mind you this is not like the forts around Pune. This is more like tekdis in Pune. Nanda was marowing PJs one after the other which were not so great ;) So I decided to take pics in the mean time.

Nanda somehow managed to climb up till the end and the view from the top was worth it! There was a mosque at the top and because of Ramazan it was kinda festive mood there...

So after coming down from the fort we left for the sanctuary. It's around 20 KMs from the fort. But after reaching there we got to know that we have to take permission from the Medhak district to get in here and we need a car as well! So going inside was not possible. So we decided to leave for the final destination of the trip, Pocharam lake. By the time we reached the lake, clouds had already gathered in the sky and the climate was getting awesome!

Took some rest near the lake as all of us were tired. And had some philosophical conversations too! Nanda continued with his PJs. But we were more than used to it now. :D

So as Nayan was hungry and Nanda had to work on Sunday :| we decided to leave place at around 2. On the way back went to Medhak again to have some food. And BTW there are only 3 places where you can eat in the Medhak district all of which serve South Indian. Finished that in no time and started the return journey. After coming on the highway the rain finally caught us. And it was raining like cats and dogs! But riding in the rain was never so much fun before! It was a perfect end to the 250 KMs bike trip. Unicorn was great as always! Hitting 115 KM/hr couple of times. It lacked the torque of the other bikes but it was stable like anything! I am loving it!

The trip was less tiring than I thought and we were back by 5 PM. Now planning for another bike trip soon!

Hussain Sagar

Had gone to Hussain Sagar again today after the movie. And I don't why, but I kinda have started liking the place. It's an awesome view, especially in the evening. I can't take my eyes off the huge water body, the statue in the center and the reflection of the lights from the roads beside. I guess I will be visiting the place often.

Speaking about Pune, is there any place in the city, which you can visit again and again whenever you feel happy/sad/bored/gloomy/nothing at all?

Hyderabad updates

Finally getting time to post on the blog. It's been a week here in Hyderabad and I'm already bored. :( Missing Pune... Anyway, work has been cool till now... Just training going on till now... The hotel where I'm staying currently is too cool... and is having wifi... :)

About Hyderabad, nothing great till now.. Certainly not better than Pune in many terms.. Everything closes down at around 9 and 10. Traffic is as good as Pune if not worse. The roads are certainly better. Didn't get many options to eat for first few days. But getting better by the day... :)

By the way, we took a flat on rent in Madhapur and will be shifting there in next month. And the real stay in Hyderabad will start then. :) Hyderabad is way bigger than Pune and there is much more to explore. Hopefully will be getting time in future to check out all the thing ;)

The most fun we had was on the day we came here. Visited Hussain Sagar and the Lumbini park. The place is awesome in the evening. And saw the laser show after that which was very boring! Will be going somewhere tomorrow and the company is showing us New York on Sunday! So looks like a good week end to me! :) That's it for now in the first post from Hyd :)

99 - Review

Happened to watch this movie today, because, well there is nothing else to do and the reviews of the movie were not bad either! Starring Kunal Khemu, Boman, Cyrus and Soha, I did not have very high expectations. But the movie just worked! Vinod Khanna, Mahesh Manjarekar and Simon Singh were good in their roles as well. Boman was the best of the lot as expected. Amit Mistry was funny in his cameo. All in all, the movie is worth watching once, as there are no other good movies releasing.

Davangere Dosa!

Now, I have never posted here about food. But the Davangere style dosa which I had today was so good that I got to post about it! Now this place is just a gaadi on the street near Kumathekar road. But believe me, today there were around 100 people around his gaadi!

The place serves only 4 dishes: Loni (butter) Dosa, Spunge Dosa, Cut Dosa and Uttappa. And today (or may be everytime) only first two things available today. And the Loni Dosa was one of the best dosa I have had ever. The batata bhaji and chatani were good too, but was not required at all... The sponge dosa was good but not as good as the Loni dosa... And as it was a gadi the cost is not much...(15/20 Rs.)

I would suggest any south indian food lover to visit this place! The map for the place is here :)

Engineering stories....

Yes, this post is inspired by Anuprit's series of the engineering stories. He writes really well and he being crazier, has great stories to tell! And with last paper over today, I feel like writing about it..Anyway, so here in this series (if only next posts come) I'm going to tell some of the great things happened during these 4 years...!

This one is from 2nd year... It was probability lecture of this Prof. M. Now, I think, according to him I was a good student ;) Anyway, I was not in greatest of moods that day. And during lecture, I asked one of my friend for Mentos... I didn't think it will be a big deal eating that right then so I went ahead. And on the next very moment he caught me chewing the thing. He told me to get out of the class. Till this everything was okay. But then suddenly I realised that this will just screw everything for next three years for internal marks and all. So I, with the Mentos in my mouth, tried asking him, "Sir, what did I do?" and that with all attitude and all it more sounded like, "What the fuck did I do?". :D And while speaking that, I realised that its making it more obvious that I am eating something. Again he politely told me to get out of the class... ;) And again while going out, I went with full "I don't give a damn" attitude (God knows why I was behaving like that!). Anyway, I apologised to him later, but it was never the same again :( Find it very funny now how much dimag ki batti can change! :)

How does it feel...?

Today we had blood donation camp here in nVidia. So a mail was circulated informing about the same. In the FAQs attached with the mail, there was one question:

How will I feel after I donate blood?

And in the the answer was:

Most people "generally" feel "great" after giving blood. And blah blah.

Now that was a typical Puneri answer I suppose. :D

BTW, I donated blood for the first time today and I do feel "great" after doing so... ;)

Truly mobile!

Aakhir uske bhi din aa gaye...*

I bought a new cell this Saturday. And no I am not showing it off. Instead this post is in memory of my old cell. Actually its not mine, but my sisters, who donated it to me 2 years ago. It is old, reliable Nokia 1100.

It is the fastest cell I have ever used. And I mean it. Leave aside your N96s and iPhones. They can never ever match the speed of 1100. There are shortcuts. The shortcuts which you can actually use. Within 3 clicks you go to Snake. Speaking of snake, how can I forget the nights I spent before exam playing the-best-game-ever-made-for-mobile.

Some of the other features I will miss:

1. The torch: Almost all of the new phones don't have it.
2. Dropping the phone every now and then just-for-fun.
3. The keypad. (My new phone has no physical keypad)
4. Snake. (Worth mentionable again)
5. The monotonic ringtones. (Which I never used, still...)
6. The never discharging battery...
7. Speed dials could actually be assigned to smses.
8. The florescent backlight...

Huh... Anyways, I am keeping the phone, just in case I feel like using it again.. I will miss my 1100... :(

Highway To Hell

i am on the highway... driving endlessly on my bike... i am alone on my bike, alone on the road, alone in my life... all you feel on the road is headlights of the trucks... smoke everywhere... the sounds of horns... and nothing else... The mind is numb, the head is numb and i am just going on driving... no signals, no speed breakers, the road is just waiting for you to go even more faster... life being played in rewind mode... "the people" are passing by me... i see them talking, talking with each other... and i can't hear anything...i feel they are calling me... they are trying to stop me...but i find everything fake... i ignore them...i know, i am going down, all the way down... coz i am on the highway to hell...

P. S. : Most of it is fiction. Just few of the thoughts which came to my mind when I was on old Pune-Mumbai highway with highway to hell (ac/dc) being played in my ears, so the title...

Why you should still use Firefox

So Google chrome has released since I posted last time about why you should be using Firefox. But it does not change my advice. You still should be using Firefox! Here are few more great add-ons for Firefox-

1. Fast dial: This feature is copied from Opera. Hey but who cares, as long as you can use it in FF? This is basically visual bookmarking for your home page. You can even get to this page on opening a new tab. Is very customizable and you can even define keyboard shortcut keys (which I love so much :) ) Or else, you can just click on the picture. Here is a screenshot of my home page/new tab:

2. Adblock plus: One of my favorite and very popular add-on. You install this add-on and you will forget most of the ads on webpages! Blocks text/image ads by Google, Yahoo and many other popular advertising sites. It works so fine that to know where the ads are, you have to open the same webpage in another browser not having ad-blocker. Here is the link.

3. FootieFox: Football fan? Install this add-on and get the updates and scores of almost all the football matches from all over the world. Gives an almost instant update on a goal. Here is the link. Bit buggy though.

4. Hide menubar: Another feature copied from other browser (IE 7). Cool add-on if you like more reading space in the browser like me. How to show the menu bar then? Just press "Alt". Here is the link.

5. FaviconizeTab: Do you open many tabs at the same time? Then this add-on is for you. Just double click on the tab and the tab reduces to its favicon in the tab bar. Saves lot of space. Easy to access the tabs. You can check it here.

6. Flash block: Annoyed by flash on the sites, starting on its own? Here is the solution. No more flashy stuff now :)

And now about chrome. Yes it is light. Light on the system. But its very light on the features as well. So its a bit obvious. Is it fast? Arguable. And I don't think it matters the speed of JavaScript engine here in India because of the internet speed. And as long as you don't use crappy IE 6 which take about an hour to load Gmail with half the features. And Firefox is already testing their new JavaScript engine! Which is (again) arguably faster that Chrome :) Chrome still doesn't have power of add-ons. It is ~~not~~ open source*. ~~(Not as if I am born-supporter of open source, just a point though ;) )~~ So for the time being guys, when Chrome is still in early phase, I am sticking to Firefox. :)

Writing this post at 00:49 (line inspired from Anuprit's blog) As I write this, I am very bored... bored to the core... My midsems finished just today... I tried to study like a dog whole week as i had prepared nothing before... But i just didn't study!! Have slept for just 11 hours out of last 66 hours (not inspired from Harsh's post) Still not feeling sleepy... going something wrong with my system!!

People are pakawing on gtalk... either not replying or replying what is even more boring....So thought that updating my blogs will be the only best thing i can do now...but don't know what to write about...so that's it for now....

Posting after almost a month.... As two of my best friends have finally started blogging here and here, I am not sure for how much time I am going to continue blogging. I don't know what to write here, in fact bored to write anything about myself... My IBM ISL internship!

This post was a long due. But i had been busy with the internship only, so could not post anything about it.

So today was my last day of the internship at IBM ISL. Did a lot of timepass today as my projects were over last week only. We had an expo kinda thing yesterday, where we presented our projects to all the employees at ISL. And the response was great!

I pretty much liked the experience I had here and the work culture. Most of of us had work centered around the lotus products. I completed two projects in this period. And got to know lots in this period... Specially related to eclipse and plug-in development.

In the second project I had to work on Mac. Which was not very great experience to start with, but with time i got used to Mac OS X. Frankly i did not find anything great with Mac except that its an eye candy. In fact there are more irritating things for windows users:

There is no right click!
There is no middle click as well :|
The application keeps on running even if you close them. That is you have to kill them.
The Home and the End keys do not work as you would suppose them to work.WTF?

Anyways, finally you get used to these things or you just accept them.

Can't write much else about the projects as that is "confidential". So that's it for now :)

FireGestures

I have decided to write some technical stuff now on the blog. So I thought what better thing to start with other than some good things which I use myself.

So this one is about FireGestures add-on for Firefox.

This is an absolutely great add-on which uses the mouse gestures to do things with Firefox at a faster pace. This is completely customizable add-on in which you can give different mouse gestures for different actions. Now this different actions include, closing a tab, closing the window, refreshing the tab, switching between the tabs etc. And all this is done by dragging the right click of your mouse, so you need not worry about your normal use of the mouse.

I searched for this add-on after I started using mouse gesture add-on for Gmail. Initially I was thinking of doing something like this on my own. But when I found this, I remembered certain Dr Kelkar¹ saying

It's better to buy the things which are already present rather than making them.

And in this particular case, I don't even need to buy it :P You can get FireGestures here.

I was so busy in this week(not working but partying :P) to tell that I am selected in D E Shaw, one of the "dream" companies which comes to our college. So the placement thing has come to end very early for me ;) The company pays lots. And 3 of my friends are also placed there. So here i come Hydrabad(that is after one year)!

Some things happens always once in your life. Getting the first job is certainly very important and greatest thing of those. And this Saturday, not just me but 213 of my collegians got job on the day 0 of out placements, to set records of sorts.
As there was only one list and about 300 people waiting for the results, the t&p representative had to call out the 213 names. He didn't have any problem in doing so as he was one of them. Certainly one of longest day of my whole 20 year old life. And i got a job in the very first try. People were dancing/shouting/celebrating/hugging each other/few guls wiping their eyes... at 10 in the night...
I don't know whether it will be my first company i join or not, but still i won't forget my first offer :) And saying to my mom,

"माँ, मुझे नौकरी मिल गयी माँ!"

I am shocked again. Not by the high page rank but the buzz it creates when a person writes that his blog got PageRank of 5 by simply doing nothing! I had written in my last post that how I got high page rank and all. Then I posted a comment on this site. People replyed to my comment thinking how I would have got so high page rank and started making so many speculations.
If this was not all. The same site managed by Jacky decided to write a post on me! Now for all of you his site is really popular and has got a pagerank of 6 (Ah just one more that me ;) ) So as his blog is popular, many of his readers read this post started coming to my blog. Reading it. I don't think they would have found much interesting stuff as this is my personal blog. There is more to the story - Few of the readers posted their own views on their sites. And few posted the views on those posts.
Now all of these guys have misunderstood that I got this pagerank by sleeping. Well guys you are giving wrong example to the youngsters of this field ;) Yeah I do love sleeping, but that much! And I seriously don't sleep to get high PageRank :D. People have gone crazy and taking my site as an case study =)) There have been about 70-75 visitors to my blog today from all over the world. Yesterday I woke up early as I had some work to do..n as I could not sleep again, I was just surfing here n there...Suddenly I felt like checking the page rank of my blog... and whew! This timepass blog of mine got a page rank of 5! (For those losers who don't know what is page rank, just google it :) )
So coming back to it, I don't understand how it got a page rank as high as that. I don't update my blog so often. Neither I have back links from great sites. My traffic also doesn't go beyond 20 even on a lucky day...But I am not complaining!

Huh finally some breather today! The last month was one of the most hectic in my life. As you might be knowing the whole COEP semester was all but just 4 months. With regatta, midsem and endsem somehow in between that.

At the start of April the submissions were in full swings. The practical exams followed. Which were okay. Theory papers were all fekku. In MIS and SE, for half of the time, i was not knowing what am i writing! (still I got 35 /50 in mis :D) Other papers were also okay to say the least.

I was thinking that I will have a good break of 15 days at least before I will start preparing for my placements. But it wasn't to be. Just after a break of 2 days, we had two companies for final year projects and internship. The internship was from ISL which i was looking for since many days... (actually from second year). And so without any preparation it was looking like i am not gonna get it. But thank god that i got selected in that!

So finally today i am feeling like there is nothing to do till Monday(java class starts then). And I can do whatever i want for next 3-4 days....that is do nothing.....just sleep, go out, watch tv, surf the net, play any damn games on comp/orkut/facebook.....watch movies...watch ipl/epl...huh getting to do this after like 1-2 months....

P.S. : Just as I published this post, I received an email from our HOD saying that another company will be coming tomorrow for giving some "presentation" about the final year projects they gonna offer us.... :| That is ruining my plan :(( shya....

IBM ISL Internship

I am just too happy now! Just got selected for the IBM ISL internship for this summer. Great end to a very tiring day! Here is the whole story of the day.....

I got up early at 630 after watching match till 1 o'clock at night. (Was totally worth it after watching this Scholes screamer) Did some study in the moring.
So reached college at 830 and got to know that they going to take about 20 interns. Which was a very good news to begin with.

The test was divided into two parts. The first part was about aptitude and maths. Had three sections - sequences, data matrices and mathematical reasoning. The sequences thing was very panchat (read simple). Atleast i found so. I had finished that well before time. The data matrices was a bit boring and difficult so could not complete the section. And again the mathematical reasoning was simple enough. I guess i found it simple because i could do few calculations very fast. Other people didn't have enough time for this section.

The second section was all technical and had questions on c, cpp, unix, os, data structures. 15 minute 25 questions. So had a little less time. Still the questions were simple enough to finish that in time. Still revising basic cpp things could have made it better.

Then they declared the results and i was one of the 47 short listed for the interview. The interview was also good. I made him focus on the projects i did. Then he asked some questions about DS, then c, cpp then os. And finally few puzzles. So all in all it was very good.

And then after an hour or so i came to know that i am one of the 22 selected for the internship. I will be working on the lotus 123 thing (Actually i have no idea about lotus 123!). Still in for a real great experiance. And what more, they gonna pay me 15k per month. So a great start for the fourth year already. (Hoping that i will be passing in the rest of the subjects of the 3rd year ;) )

Only the thing which didn't go according to the story is Akash and Nikhil didnt get through :( .

Having two tests the next day and one submission (Read coep continuous evaluation). Its 12.30 a.m. I have not studied much. In fact nothing after the midsems. And I am watching Roma against United. This has been the case this semester.... Am thinking all this while watching the match....thinking about the chapters i have to complete for tomorrow....about the changes in me.....and.....

Most boring movie of 2008 that i have seen...It has got 7 Oscar nominations and one Oscar award...but somehow failed to impress me and my 5 friends....as the above pic says Clooney is great in his role but still i found the movie very slow and everything in the movie was looking obvious like a bollywood movie :D For most of the time I was yawning , Sneha, Swati, Manvi were chattering and loling , dude and me were trying to understand the movie and Sarode was banging his head on the chair :O The explanation he had for his actions =)) was that he was not getting most of the things happening :)) Anyways second half was better than first and we could bare it...somehow.... :D

Spent 80 bucks on this and i am kinda regretting it :P. Jodha could have better compared to this but the guls had seen it already.... :|

Microsoft Internship

Going for Microsoft internship test tomorrow morning at 5! The test is in Mumbai and they have asked to come at 9.30 AM. I don't understand how can they schedule it so early even when they know that people are gonna come from outside mumbai also. Anyways had to book car for the same. And its gonna be fun because of that. As I don't think i don't have much chance over there(frankly noone from COEP thinks he/she has A chance :P ) anyways gotta study for that....ciao

Update: The test was ok. Don't know about the chances though :)

     Had gone to D. Y. Patil yesterday for participating in the project competition with the same project(BRMS). They had told us to report at 9! We went by bus n reached well before time only to see none of the organizers over there. That was expected. Real thing was yet to come.
     In the competition we first had to do poster competition. Now we were hearing it for the first time.We had about 4 posters with us. And all people against us were from final year :D, presenting their BE project. After some time we came to know that the thing was for final year project only. Finally judges came n we had been given only 2 mins or something...Our presentation was good enough. Then another set of judges came :D Those were from the college itself i think. N they were totally impressed by our thing!
     Later on we came to know that there is another presentation which to be done in the form of ppt. N every team was taking 10 minutes at least. I just don't understand why they could not finish the whole thing in one go. Thank god that we had to show the ppt to only one judges team n those who were impressed by our thing. We impressed them more by real thing working. And we won the second prize! We beat all the final year projects but one!! Alas we were not there prize distribution as we had left in the afternoon only... Else i would have uploaded pics here with medals n all =)) The prize money is only 500 and the cheque is on Ketan's name who doesn't even have bank account :/
     By the way we got a call from Calsoft over there :D :D... They just gave us a letter saying that they were impressed by our project n would like to offer a call for interview n all :O ....n below that they had written that we will have to give C n apti test before =))
     All this was good in the day but still day was very tiring n boring....n i cudnt do wat i wanted to do....... :(

Goa calling.......

The blood bank resource management project got short listed for another event which is at BITS pilani goa campus....but i am not going to Goa :( Because of the expenses we decided that only one of will be going and my gharwalas said NO! I hadn't expected that!

Anyways now Vijay is going there. We (ketan n me) kinda had to fulfill his wishes(Sleeper coach ,Volvo...) but i think that was ob as exams are there from next sat :(( So the things is Vijay is leaving 2moro evening and returning again on sunday i.e. the the very next day!! =)) So i don't think he's also gonna enjoy much. Anyways we just didn't want to miss the chance. So we just taking this risk. The real great time i had during this whole thing was during the bargaining we had! Now enough of that.

Gave treat to all friends in Vaishali for the Techfest thing. Had a nice time with all after many days. Not having great time in college coz of surprise tests n all...Yeah MIS this time was seriously surprise!! N i had not e1 touched the book b4... so obviously gonna screwed when i will get the paper :( For the 1st time i was writing stories in the paper... OS and HCI was better compared to it :) Again more tests in next week :(( :(( and mid sem after that.....the list goes on.....lets see....

New coach for England

So England got a new coach... And its Fabio Capello this time. The Italian was sacked by Real Madrid after he won the Spanish title with them last season. He has been very successful at club a la Sven but coaching any other club/nation and coaching England is hell of a different thing :D
Anyways it seems that FINALLY FA has woken up. Appointing a good coach for the nation that is full of football stars... McClaren never looked capable of doing that...
Now i just hope he does not make a BIG mistake of dropping(yeah coz he can't sell dem at this level :P) someone like Beckham. I am not sure how much he fits into the side but he sure deserved a place Madrid side that time....

so my xam finished yesterday....n last paper was not so great i said lets forget it n watch some movie with friends....so here is what i thought
the movie is absolutely crap....there is nothing in the movie....half of the story revolves around how-asian-footballers-are-racially-abused-in-england so much that john is not allowed to play in a club-Aston (not villa) even when HE IS THE BEST =)) ok john has done his role well....so as he can't play for Aston so he plays for Southall United FC what is circus according to him....
but as it happen in every sports movie the group of part time footballers become GOOD football players :0 and they are leading the table with 2 matches to go....when John gets a good offer from another club so he joins it.....then the rest of the story is again as expected how-the-
hero-of-the-movie-comes-back-to-save-his-heroine oh sorry his-football-club same all crap we have seen right from JJWS to Chak De but i had no option as my xam had finished....i HAD to watch a movie....

Everyone knows that Hutch is now Vodafone but i have a news for u...ESPN is now Doordarshan....looking at the telecast of the T20 championship i am compelled to say that.....ok i know India won the championship but ESS (read ESPN Star Sports) also earned money from the 15 day long tournament....der were ads all over....b4 the over finishes....b4 the batsman leaves pitch after getting out...sometimes the first ball of the over is not to be seen coz of ads....it was very frustrating not see ther replay of Gilly/Hayden's stump knocked off the ground...instead i am getting to see shock laga laga shock lagaaaa.....n thank you uncle.... ok these are not too bad of ads but.....so many times.....n dat too at the expense of replays n great rivalry between players...like i cudnt get much of the yuvi-freddie spat.....thank god ESS wer much better during few final overs of each innings....but sometimes dat was too less....its ESPN man the so called worldwide leader in sports so certainly this is not expected from them....neways the cup is over now....n nothing can be done....i am jus too happy with the team's victory n these ads is not gonna lessen tht much :)

Internship

Finally looks like i am gonna do something in this holidays.....i am going to do internship at Better Labs....even i hadnt heard dis name before yesterday.....but it looks like a great chance.....we have to develop some application for facebook which is another social networking site....ranked number 2 in world behind myspace...they just made there code open to all and now they are asking for the applications for their site. The project is going to be based on Ruby on rails. so i am glad that i am goin 2 learn rails. there are total 4/5 of us.
Speaking abt more, today we had an introductory session of what we are actually going to be and the actual work will start from tomorrow. the first week is goin 2 b of getting familiar with rails and after that all 5 of us will given different subject/applications to work on. so lets see how it gets on
But looks like i will have to get up early for this thing as the person who is going to teach us is in US n we must hav atleast on session together everyday n that looks 2 b possible only in morning (9 am) n it looks like real hard work but i dont mind it :) It really comes out of the blue coz i had really never tht of internship after 2nd year...so lest see :)
